I'm about half way through...I find it good but not great. I find it a little hard to follow. I feel as if something more should be happening.
Anyone else read it? What did you think of it?

I finished the book, and i did like it. I think I was expecting too much from it.

I think I wrote a short review on it in the "Book you've recently finished" thread - I really enjoyed reading WSS, I think it's a must for any fan of the Bronte sisters. Even though the inspiration for the book came from Charlotte's Jane Eyre, I thought the style was more similar to Emily's.

I liked the style...I just didn't like the flow of the book.

I guess the change of point of view takes some getting used to. After reading the first part, where Antoinette tells her story, I was somewhat taken aback by the new narrator in the second part. Is that something that bothered you too?

That, and I felt there was some rambling on with nothing much happening. I kept thinking there was something I was missing. Like someone more was suppose to be happening.

Well, there's a reason why Jean Rhys loved the character of the mad woman in the attic, she was pretty much a Bertha Mason herself! I guess I got caught up in the atmosphere of madness that surrounds the book and I might easily have overlooked some of its flaws. I'd still like to discuss this book with one of my professors, I'd be curious to know what he thinks of it...

I think I was expecting too much lol. I might be wrong, but I had trouble understanding the characters.

Well, I think it's purposely hard to follow. Keep in mind that it's written from the point of view of a woman who is slowly losing her mind. You actually really can't "believe" everything you read in the book because the narrator is so unreliable

That's true lost girl. I was reading and continually thinking that there was something missing...or something I wasen't getting. It made me question if I was reading it right.
