What's sad is that the other little girl isn't "ugly" at all, she's actually really cute!

I think the reason Michael Phelps attracts so much attention is that he's one of the few swimmers who actually stands a very good chance to win every single event he's in. Most swimmers compete in many events, but only have a chance of medaling in one or two, let alone all. Also, the next gold medal he wins will make him the greatest olympic champion of all time (more gold medals that anyone else). I'm excited for him, and it's really fun to watch him swim. The 400 meter relay that his team won last night was an incredible race! My husband and I were actually cheering them on outloud! It was an incredible race!!

My mom and I always watch gymnastics or figure skating, depending upon whether it is summer or winter. This year, we have been getting into watching diving, swimming, and volleyball too.

I was wondering, we (holland) have this thing calles 'Heineken Holland House", where theres a party every night and the athletics that have won something are asked on stage and they get an applause and a ribbon (or something ). Do other countries alos have something like that at the Olympics? I believe it is open all day long, so can also hang out there during the day.. or something..

I don't really tend to watch a lot of the Olympics when they're on, but if I do it's typically gymnastics I think it's a beautiful sport to watch, even if it is crazy that people can do that stuff with their bodies. I've been seeing a bunch of the swimming stuff too on TV. I am sick of Michael Phelps winning all the time though! I mean it's great for the US, but there's no suspense in any race he's in because he'll win 99.9% (or so it seems) of the time.
I did catch that the little girl was lip synching at the opening ceremony. It's horrible. I saw a picture of the other girl, the girl with the voice, in the newspaper and I think she's just as cute. Little kids aren't supposed to be perfect anyways! The whole "scandal" just makes China look bad. And that's funny because they did it so China wouldn't look bad...I guess that just shows them what they get for doing it.
Another issue I'm hearing a lot about is the Chinese gymnastics team. All of their passports say that they're 16, but come on--some of those girls look 12 or 13! I realize that Asian people look so different in physical appearance that they typically look younger than Caucasian people when they're the same age, but only the one girl who's "20" looks 16. Anyone else hearing about this issue?

I read somewhere that the Chinese gymnastics team has 12-13 year olds, but that just makes their win that much more impressive in my eyes.
I'm so torn between all these statements against the Chinese. Yes they were wrong with the decision of the little girl and the voice. But I'm so sick of people ratting out the Chinese and labelling them callous and horrible because that's where I'm from. And it's the Olympics - a time when all countries and races come together.

Yes, Canada also has some sort of pavilion where they have those parties... I guess they haven't used it much this year! Edit: Hang on, I just watched the news and Canada now has 3 medals, finally! I read somewhere that the Chinese gymnastics team has 12-13 year olds, but that just makes their win that much more impressive in my eyes. Actually, the reason why they went for a minimum age of 16 for gymnastics is that it's much more difficult for a 16-year-old than a 12-year-old to perform at this sport. When you're younger, you're much more flexible and your small height/weight gives you a huge advantage. I know that China has been taking a lot of heat over stuff that's happened surrounding the Olympics, but if they resort to cheating they're not helping their cause any

I just wanted to know, did or did not Michael Phelps won 8 gold medals (I've only heard about 7 gold medals) ? Estonia finally won medals - silver, but still.. yay!! I know it isn't much, but actually it's really big deal for so small country like Estonia.

Michael Phelps has won 7 golds so far (he won number 7 last night in one of the most amazing races I've ever seen - he won by only 1/100 of a second!!).
Tonight he swims his last race, a 4x100 relay, and can win his 8th gold medal.

It was an AMAZING race! I almost couldn't watch and J and I were cheering out loud for the team!!
And the US has a "Hospitality House". The news people were going around finding the best one! I forget which one they thought was the best...

It is much easier for a younger woman to do gymnastics (trust me, I babysit three young girls who are gymnasts and they've told me...as well as their mother).

I agree with Isa and Kristie too, and I also think another reason younger gymnasts could be better for your team is that they are usually not plagued by past injuries at that age. The older a gymnast gets, the more likely it is that they've had to overcome injuries that have affected their performances.
