My favorite bookstore, The Strand, recently turned 80 years old. They've been celebrating all summer, and have had a contest all summer as well. They asked their customers to list their top five favorite books, and then they revealed their customer's top 80 favorite books at a party yesterday. I think the list is pretty fun, and it's nice to see a good mix of classics and contemporary. I also love seeing a few kid's lit books on there too, especially Where the Wild Things Are. www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/booklist/?listid=strand80I've read 28, and I own a lot of them that I need to read.

I forgot to mention, only 1 of the five books I nominated made the list. I nominated:
1: The Phantom Tollbooth; Norman Juster 2: A Man Without a Country; Kurt Vonnegut 3: Life of Pi; Yann Martel 4: The Namesake; Jhumpa Lahiri 5: The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid; Bill Bryson
But it was hard to pick just 5 anyway, and many of my very favorites were on the list.

Thanks for posting the link zelda, I liked that list, I've read 36 of it so far. I liked the idea of asking customers to list their own favorite books

Good list. I've read 33.
I think the Strand is going to be one of my first stops when I finally make it to New York.

I've read 23 so far. That is a very great list though! Such a neat idea too! I've yet to find a bookstore that is simply amazing. One of the downfalls of living in a rural area of Kansas I guess.
