so is the mermaid chair worth reading even tho its not as good cuz i was thinking about getting it?[/quote]
Yup, it is. I thought the relationship with her mother was very intense and I like the breaking-free-and-finding-yourself story theme. I think the problem was that it was so highly appraised that I had too high expectations. And I couln´t relate to Jessie as much as to other characters.

I have a few things started here and there. I'm just about finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Good book, about women in China. I saw that on oprah the other day. She brought in a tiny shoe that the women had their feet binded to fit in. I had heard of foot binding before, but I had no idea it was THAT bad. This shoe was the size of a little baby's bootie. Apparently when they bind their feet they break every bone in the foot. That is true. The book has a really good(?) description in it. Good as in details, and emotional. Not as in something I enjoyed reading.

Yeah, I liked The Mermaid Chair too. It was just really interesting. It really doesn't have a whole lot to do with the mermaid chair, but I liked the woman's relationships with other people, especially with her mother and the priest guy.

So, I finished a seperate peace today and I liked it a lot. Only, I felt pretty dumb cause I wasn´t sure if Gene pushed Finny from the tree or if it was his imagination. Very confusing.
My tbr pile is so high that I can´t decide what to read next. The namesake, interpreter of maladies or plainsong?Help!

I always assumed that Gene was thinking about pushing him, but Finny fell out by accident. Gene just felt guilty because he was wanted to push him. But then, I haven't read it for awhile, so I don't know.

OK, that was a though decision but I decided to go with "Castle Rackrent" by Maria Edgeworth for my next book. It's less than 100 pages, so I should be done in no time. One of my friends wrote her thesis on Edgeworth and so far I've only read one of her novels (Belinda) so I wanted to read another one.

I started the namesake this morning. I like it so far. I´ve never heard of Maria Edgeworth. Shame on me :-)

I just finished the namesake. It´s such a beautiful and sad story. So now I definitely want to read interpreter of maladies. Think I´m going to start it later today. Has anyone read them? Which did you like better?
