My nearest good bookstore is about 10-15 miles away. I think it's a chain (Books-A-Million). We do have a used bookstore that's in a local coffee shop, but it's full of books that no one wants and not many people would buy. There are classics though, so that's nice.

I had never heard of Books-a-Million before but they are all over Florida. We have a pretty good mix of independent and chains here in Ann Arbor. Borders started here and I always thought that was kind of cool. I had a great independent bookstore that I loved in San Francisco. It was right around the corner from my apartment and I'm sad that I can't go there anymore.

I live in Jersey which basically means the only bookstores we have are the huge retail stores like Barnes and Noble. I really wish there were some used bookstores around here! where in jersey do you live? i live in bergen county

i just came back from very first borders book store. and i must say i am highly impressed. the staff was so nice. the book i got (for a birthday present) was dirty but it was the last copy. i asked if they could check the computer for anonther copy, they didn't have one so he took out a spray cleaner and cleaned the book! and when i went to check out he gave me extra coupons and gave me the membership discount. so nice! i usually go to barnes and nobles, which i like but i think borders is much nicer.

There's a Borders about a half hour from my place. It's fantastic - three storeys high, and on the top level there's a Gloria Jeans so we can sit and drink & eat and just read. (Gloria Jeans is like the Australian equivalent to Starbucks). It's the greatest, I love it more than Dymocks. I like that it sells international magazines too.

I have never been to hatchards in London. Ive been to foyles though which I recommend, they also have a nice waterstones, which has a load of second hand, or unpopular stock in the basement for cheap Back in the day I went to Borders in Glasgow a bunch of times. It's fantastic Unfortunately Borders went into recession in the UK, and that store along with all the rest cease to exist This was end of 2009 and we went to the closing down sale and got loads. I believe it is now shut in the US as well My city doesnt have that many book stores we have; blackwells, waterstones and whsmith. those are the only chain stores. you are always better geting stuff from amazon but we do have a lot of charity shops, some specialising in books where you can get some great stuff It is my dream to go to the Strand in NYC, it looks fantastic. My dad is going next year and I will ask him to pick something up for me. also Book Soup in LA looks very cool
