Hehe, thanks to all who liked the costume. (the word "cute" made the rounds a lot that night - who would have thought that anyone would wish to look cute for their 21st?! I'm an odd little muffin) I carried Anne books in my basket of course! (i know that decision is hardly logical and certainly not correct for the time period, but it somehow seemed like the only way to go)

You look so great! Cool outfits. You should keep the basket to carry your books, Neh!

My family and I went in to town today now that the weather has calmed to look at the damage and see the beached ship. You can't get a full impression of how massive it is and how far up the beach it is from these pics but I'm going to post them anyway... My younger sister and I and the ship (and some random kids that snuck into the frame!) The ship:

I reckon so, I spoke to your dad on the phone for a bit when you weren't home when I rang last night. He was telling me about how he was cooking all this meat now that your power has come back on so it wouldn't go off!

Yep - bacon, pork, silverside and lamb!!! It went on until about midnight. Mum helped - they were exhausted! And now we're spending the whole day cleaning... but what a weekend! A tree fell outside onto a powerline, and there are trees down everywhere. And all the abandoned cars (that then got raided by heartless morons) Ugh! I never want to repeat this experience ever again. Sorry people: that was very off-topic. I am done now!

Oh I encourage off topicness Power lines close to your house? You're lucky you weren't electrocuted! Our power was off here so I had to go stay at my granparents so I could study, otherwise I would have had to do it by candlelight! We didn't have any damage to our house, but the neighbours have a huge tree in their pool! Have you noticed how so many of the abandoned cars have had their number plates stolen? They were everywhere in town today. We let our chicken sleep inside in a laundry basket during the storm, was Ollie scared witless?

He was ok - as cats see best in the dark it didn't really affect him our being without power for 3 days (grrr!!!) and he was ok during the bulk of the storm... he just slept in his usual spots. Mum's car got water in it up to the peddles because she was driving home from work during the flooding in Warners Bay - she was so petrified; she could see people having to leave their cars and just wade in the water to get to somewhere dry and she had no way of getting out of it for a while there. Everything's ok now, but her car's carpet is soaked and smelly - we're airing it out now. As for car number plates being stolen, i think the worst was when i heard that someone had completely raided an ambandoned ambulance in town; the ambos had to piggy-back the patient to somewhere dry and leave the van in the street/stream and in the morning, someone had gine through and taken everything from it! That's just wrong!!!

I heard about that, that is wrong! Thank goodness your mum is ok. Phil's sister's fiance was stuck in town wading in water up to his neck! And Phil's dad caught a bus to an RSL from town and the bus filled up with water. I'm glad its all over now though. We were out of power for 24 hrs and that was horrible, I feel for you and your 3 days worth!

Yes - life by candlelight. How DID the Brontes and the Austens and the Dickens' and every other notable classic author do it?! I wanted to repeatedly band my head against a wall for how depdedant we actually are on electricity. Golly gosh! Crikey - being on a bus while it's filling with water!! Scary stuff.. it's like the claustrophobic scenes in Titanic!
