It'll be interesting to see how the friendship between Cuba and Venezuela pans out. Hopefully there won't be any big wars as a result, and I wish that if there is a revolution that it is really for the sake of the people and not for want of a bigger house

Demonstrations are planned in Bolivia and Ecuador over a ban by football (soccer) body Fifa on international games more than 2,500m (8,200ft) above sea level. Fifa says there are fears that the high altitude can harm players' health and possibly distort competition. Bolivian President Morales said: "Without sport - without football - there cannot be South American unity. It is not possible that through some shady actions of Fifa we will see the division of South America and the division of Latin America." taken from news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6704605.stm

I think that it's a little stupid to be so upset by something like this. If I felt really passionately about a sport and something like this happened, I might be a bit upset. But stating the unity of South/Latin America depends upon being able to play soccer...well, that's not saying much about the abilities of actual government now, is it?

I'm with you on that one, Kristie! I understand how important football is in South American countries but to have the President of Bolivia make such a statement sounds a bit dumb to me, especially when that decision must have been made based on health concerns only.

I read a very sad news story today, a small plane crashed in Lake Michigan - it was carrying donor organs that were being transported to Michigan for transplants - and all the crew and transplant doctors were killed. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070605/ap_on_re_us/plane_downHow completely horrible - what a sad thing to happen to a team of people who dedicated their lives to saving other people's.

My mom was telling me about this. She works at UM Hospital and was apparently working with some of the doctors just the other day. The whole hospital is hurting from it. It's so sad because not only do you lose some great doctors and pilots, but you have to worry about the people waiting for the transplants, too.

THis is random local news but its still been crazy around where i live
Apparently a police officer who was undercover,,, was distracted by a minute by a fight across the street ran to the sense... leaving a backpack with his duty belt in it (yes this includes the gun) and it was stolen by someone..... did I say this was infront of a pretty skethchy city HIGH SCHOOL..... yea the police officer was pretty dumb, they locked down the school, people didnt get out until like 8pm.... they still hadnt found the gun!

Of course someone would steal sth like that, people are crazy! And the officer was very thoughtless.
The meeting of the G-8 in Heiligdamm is in the news, of course. I wish it was closer so I could go to the protests but I guess that was one of the reasons for choosing the place. And the poiliticians are behaving worse than kindergarten kids!
China won´t sign a climate contract that limits their economic growth, the US won´t sign anything that doesn´t include China, personally I think Bush is just concerned that another country could be more powerful. Our president pretends that Germany is doing great with the CO2 limit. And we need Putin to point out what lies out government tells us. I´d laugh if it weren´t so sad!

The US and China won't sign the Kyoto Protocol. They're both teamed up with a few other countries in an alliance that signed a similar, less demanding treaty than the Kyoto Protocol. I'm fine with this decision of Bush's (amazingly...)

it really is. Goes to show how corrupt the judicial system of America truely is, throw a few bucks and a famous name and they go a wagging. How disgusting!! This sets up a precedent for every other celebrity about how easy it is to pay off their crimes. I distinctly remember Paris saying that she wants to be a role model for girls (as if being a semi-porn star is what girls aspire to be!!) and that is why she is going to jail. This is ridiculus no other person would be allowed to have their sentence in a million dollar mansion and to make things worse her sentence is reduced

This is when I'm proud to be part of the American justice system.
I think they should use celebrities as examples, like Martha Stewart.
