how do taxes work in your country?
In Quebec we have 2 tax's. One is provincial and one if federal. Together they add up to 14%. As much as i hate tax, I love that we have so much social services.

Wow, I have no idea, when I work I don´t make more than 400 euros a month so I don´t have to pay any. But I think sales taxes are up this year.

i have no idea what it adds up to but we have a certain percentage taken out of paychecks for school district, local, state, and federal taxes. i have no idea what the money is really for, except that some goes into retirement plans because it's taken out for that too. taxes confuse me...

WE have taxes on everything we buy too, that's 14%. Plus school, fire, and property tax.

our sales tax depends on state and local. usually it's 6 or 6.5%. i liked when i went to scotland because the sales tax was included, so you paid what the stupid price tag said, not having to add anything in your head to make sure you had enough

Oh man, they don´t automatically include it in the price? I´d be so confused if I had to figure it out myself

yeah i hate it because if something costs like $4.99 and you have $5 you don't have enough to pay for it. it sucks...

I don't know that much about how taxes work here as I get all of mine back because I don't earn enough. But I know that there's like a tax barrier for your first job so you don't pay heaps of tax on it (if you're like my age and not earning much) but if you had a second casual job it wouldn't be there and you'd get taxed more. Also if the employer forgets to file your tax number or you don't give it to them half your pay will get taxed and you won't get it back till the tax return in July (this happened to me recently cos they forgot to send it to the payroll office).

At what age is it legal to drink in your country? In Australia it's 18.

Some exchange students told me Sweden has some weird rule where you can go out and drink when you're 18 but you can't buy alcohol from a bottle shop like to take home or to a party until your 21, I'm not sure if that's true or not though.

In Germany we´re allowed to drink at home when we´re 16 but not the strong liquor and for buying and drinking in pubs and stuff you have to be 18.

that's a good rule about 16 to drink at home. We don't have that rule but most people do it anyway, parents like to have their kids drink a little bit at home so their less likely to go out and get really, really drunk when they turn 18.

Yeah, most people like to drink some for new year and birthdays and I think that´s okay, they need to learn how to hold their alcohol.

Plus at 16 they're usually old enough to handle a glass of wine with dinner or something. I mean people used to put a little bit of brandy in baby's milk to help them sleep and that was considered ok.
