After my BA I wanted to get my Masters in Library Science, but I didn't have the money to pay for it. Oh well, technical college has been just as good.

how much does a year's tuition and board cost (in US dollars if you can) in Canada? I'm pretty sure that the school I'm attending costs around $14,000 a year, but I don't live on campus, so I only pay about half of that for tuition and fees and such. For a Canadian student it costs about US$800 per semester at the school I went to (Laval U.). We have residences but we don't have student housing programs so that's never included in the fees.

lol, to be honest with you, I had no idea there was such a thing as Canadian studies in the US, and I do wonder if there's a future with that degree! I think people might pick on Canada because they know we're so laid back they're gonna get away with it. We're very proud of being Canadians (or should I say very proud of not being Americans - no offense!) but most of us don't like to take ourselves too seriously.
As for student fees, it would be a bit more expensive than that if you're an American studying in Canada because there are different rates for students from outside the country, but yeah, basically it would still be cheaper than studying in the US.

don't worry, no offense taken. my ethnic studies teacher is an immigrant from india, and she asked our class how we view americans. we all said we were lazy and undetermined. but she disagreed. she said that we always seem to be striving for something. and to have a job to put yourself through college would be a very admirable trait. but i still don't quite believe her. americans are arrogant: enough said.
yeah, our international students have to pay a lot. even our out of state students have a lot. i don't really know why it can't just be the same for everyone, but whatever.

Over here it's because the province provides a lot of funding for schools and universities, so basically tax payers provide a lot of funding, and I guess it wouldn't be fair for someone from outside the country to pay the same amount.
But wow, I'm surprised you guys were so harsh on yourselves. I certainly don't perceive Americans as lazy and undetermined, but then again I don't live there. But I think the US are going to change a lot over the next few years because there seems to be a huge gap between the way young people think and the way their parents think... Am I right or is it just what the Daily Show wants me to believe?!

I think it's like that for quite a few countries... Argentina is the same, I think France is really cheap too.

Am I right or is it just what the Daily Show wants me to believe?! Well, that's mostly true. There is such a huge generation gap between our parents and the current student age citizens in the US. But, fortunately, the Democrats did real well in the election yesterday. I know that the Republicans lost many votes because of the current issues with Iraq and whatnot. Technically I'm an Independent, so I'm not really a Dem or Rep, but I agree with more Democratic views than Republican...perhaps because I'm very liberal

I think America has great potential but they don´t do enough with it. I mean you guys have the terminator for senator, it´s hilarious. I heard he was probably re-elected because he avoided being seen with the president. Don´t think they´re buddies anymore. What I find confusing is how America has such huge amounts of great lit and journalism but even the great and important newspapers are so censured. Germany has that too but I think it´s a bit better. Plus my dad is quite critical and we often watch those shows late in the evening when there´s more info and he watches al jazera (don´t know how to spell it). I think a study said that especially the younger generation was really into this anti-terrorism war. That is weird because I thought it was mostly the older ones who are pro-bush. Sorry for the rambling!
About the tuition: They are new in Germany and I have to pay 650 Euros per semester starting next semester. But I don´t think we´ll get anything for it. We have too few professors and classes are so packed that we have to sit on the steps if we even get that far! So I guess I could afford 1400 Euros per year and I´d save for it. We have a seminar for contemporary canadian fiction but I think it´s for masters only. I´d want to study American lit but that would be possible in Canada, right?

DorothyParker85: I also cannot believe that Arnold Schwarzeneggar is governor of California. And with the anti-terrorism war thing: I along with many of my peers just don't really understand what our troops are doing in Iraq. I know that it's pathetic we don't know, but a lot of my generation don't care for politics and politics are why we're fighting this war.
