Does anyone have any weird goals about wanting to read certain books? Like do you have a goal to read everything one author wrote?
I have a goal to read a book published in every year starting at 1800. So, for instance I read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum recently, so that takes care of 1900. I've been compiling a list of possible books for each year, but some years there was just nothing lol

I want to beat my total number of books read this year. This year I read 40. We'll see by the end of December what my actual total is.

Funny you should start this thread - I was thinking today that my resolution for the New Year will be to read one book in Spanish every month, so 12 for the year. It's gonna bring down my total number of books read because I don't read as fast in Spanish, but I think it'll be very good practice and I keep putting it off, so I thought I'd turn it into a resolution!

this past year i had a goal to read 50 books. i think i'm going to alter that a bit for this coming year (skipped out on some extra-long books because there wasn't enough time) but i am currently reading # 50.
i really like that idea, Kristie, to read a book published in every year starting at 1800. i may adopt that myself!

Wow Kristie, that's a really cool idea! I want to do it too now! I want to read all Kurt Vonnegut's books. I've read 9 of 22, and I own all but 2. This year I also had a goal of reading a book a week (52 books total) during the year, and met that goal. I'm at 68 right now. I'm also trying to read more classics, but I don't have a set plan in mind or even a definitive list. I find new ones to add all the time.

My goal would be to read all the books on my lists (I have more than one) but I have to say that everytime I read a new author then I have this obsession to read and/or know about everything else that he or she has written..now I control myself better but in the past every new author was a challenge to me!
My other goal would be to read more litarature from various countries..Spain for example!

I don't have a number of books goal because I find it just too hard to read a certain amount at times because of all the eye strain I get from uni and the paper. But I have a goal to read everything Margaret Atwood and Truman Capote has written. Atwood I have a fair bit more to read. I try to stretch her out a bit though because sometimes I really am in an Atwood mood and I like to always have something of hers I haven't read on hand. I own most of her books.
Other than that just a goal to read a lot of the modern classics and classics.

Kristie, when you started this goal did you count books you've already read? Or did you start fresh?
Dom, I'm the same way with Kurt Vonnegut. I want to read all his books, but I'm not in a rush. I like to have a 'new' one for when I get in a Vonnegut mood. And unfortunately there probably wont be any new Vonnegut novels anymore. However his longtime friend and agent said that it was likely for some new things to be published still, but I don't know if it would be a novel. It seems more likely that it would be essays or something. But he was supposed to have been working on a novel since Timequake that he said was unfinishable. Maybe they'll publish it unfinished, or maybe it was more finished that he ever admitted.

I would like to read everything by Margaret Atwood, I own most of it, and I love her writing. I really like this idea about a book for each year too!

Kristie, when you started this goal did you count books you've already read? Or did you start fresh? Yes, I counted books I'd already read. I've only been keeping track of the books I've read since junior year of high school (3 years or so ago), but I counted books I knew I read before that, like in earlier high school or even junior high.

My goal would be to read as many contemporary works as I can, because I tend to read more classics, they're easier to get here... I also had a goal of reading one book per week, and I kept up with it until July or so... Then I had to switch into "intense studying mode" so that I can get a scholarship for college next year, so I couldn't met that goal... But I'm gonna bring it down to 2 books per month next year... more realistic for me , hahaha
