I just wanted to know what everyone thinks of the following poem. It's one of my favorites and it always interests me to see what other people think.
I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart) I am never without it (anywhere you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling) I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) And it's you are whatever what a moon has always meant And whatever a sun will always sing is you
Here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of a sky of a tree called life: which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart).

I'm a fan of ee cummings - i like the facile style, you know, deliberately simple style making its meaning much more profound
you see this in other poets like william carlos williams and gerard manley hopkins
do you like elizabeth bishop? one art is one of my favourite poems

Yes I do! lol. I was reading your post and I thought the name sounded familiar and I couldn't quite place it. I looked it up and duh! lol. They read it on In Her Shoes.
Sadly though I've only read that one poem, but I'll absolutely read more of her work in the future.

Sadly though I've only read that one poem, but I'll absolutely read more of her work in the future. Her writing is amazing, she uses really controlled forms like villanelles to contain such passion and emotion Here's another Bishop masterpiece: Casabianca Love's the boy stood on the burning deck trying to recite "The boy stood on the burning deck". Love's the son stood stammering elocution while the poor ship in flames went down. Love's the obstinate boy, the ship, even the swimming sailors, who would like a schoolroom platform, too or an excuse to stay on deck. And love's the burning boy. -- Elizabeth Bishop

Do you have any books of her poetry? If so, what are they called? lol. I'm glad to hear that you like Bishop, I think she's one of the most underrated poets out there. There's a book called (hang on, will just go check) called Complete Poems published by Chatto and Windus. Any library should be able to track something down for you though.
