I'm reading Wonder Boys right now, and my favorite Character is definitely James Leer. Even though he's lied about his entire past, you can't help but feel sorry for him, and want to help him.

I'm reading the Virgin Suicides, Harry Potter and the HBP, The Short History of Nearly Everything (for school), and Uncle Tom's Cabin.
Virgin Suicides: Lux or Mary, I'm reading this book as a favor to a friend who read something I liked and didn't want to. Can anyone tell me if this is a good book? I'm not loving it so far.
Harry Potter: Hermione, Tonks, Lupin, Ron, Dumbledore, Sirius (In spirit), and Dobby. I was never a girl who could get into liking evil characters.
Uncle Tom's Cabin: I haven't really gotten very far as I've been reading the Virgin Suicides :-P, so the characters haven't formed yet, but I enjoy it immensely
Short History of Nearly Everything doesn't have characters, it is how our world was formed. I can't say I like it very much.

I loved The Virgin Suicides from the get go Maybe you will like it more as you get into it. I just found the writing so poetic.

I'm reading A Clockwork Orange but I'm only about 50 pages in, I don't think it's possible to like any character in the book at this point.

I'm reading Anna Karenina right now. I'm in Part 2 and, since Part 1, my favorite character has switched from Anna (of course she was my first...she's the title character ) to Kitty. I'm not sure why, perhaps it's her hopelessness and utter sense of despair at having rejected someone she might have loved for someone whose love was only the societal one. Fortunately, I believe, I have no reason to identify with her, and she plays such a minor role, but Tolstoy's chapter on her seeing Anna and Vronsky at the ball just let me understand her and her situation completely.

I'm reading The Razor's Edge and I think I like Maugham himself best. He says (in the book) always so right things. I like (and don't like) Larry also. I like him because he's a free spirit and he does what he wants. And he is a mystey-man :)But I don't like him because sometimes he just drags the mood down. The funniest character in the book is for sure Elliott. He's just so queer.

In Middlesex my favorite character is Desdemona. I identify with her worrying and anxiety, and especially her hypochondria. I also think she's very funny, especially as she gets older.
