Anna Karenina seems very intimidating to me.. the names alone seem confusing. why is it confusing?? (i agree. very intimidating!!)

I think every book can seem daunting especially classics (I have yet to try out Dickens) but once I start pouring through a book I gradually get into it and even enjoy the fruits of my labor!

Dickens is really good! In sixth grade we had to read "A Christmas Carol" and he spent about a page talking about a doorknob. Okay, so maybe that wasn't the best gimmick to get you reading Dickens, but if it helps, the door knob was written about very very well. The first pages of a book are the hardest, definitely, because you're all abuzz thinking: "Ooh! Look at this book I have! I've been wanting to read it for ages and now I have it!" I've got Anna Karenina right now so...wish me luck!!

I'm going to add The Red Tent as a last Hurrah for high school. My homeroom teacher told me she really enjoyed it!

My TBR List is forever long, but the newest additions are Special Topics in Calamity Physics (Because of what I've read on this site) and Vanity Fair (Because I just watched the movie, and now I'm interested.

I know what you mean, mine TBR list is interminable. I loved Special Topics in Calamity Physics, it's a very good addition

yes it is, but it is a long story, and (in my opinion) he could've left out certain parts.. but I guess he wanted more money..

I'm excited to read Vanity Fair too, it's been on my to-be-read shelf for months (I was going to read it this summer but I never got around to it, I'm sad )

Dom mentioned a new Lisa See novel called Peony in Love for the next bookclub suggestion, and I think it sounds really interesting...

I'd like to read that, too.
A girl at work talked me about Medea by Ljudmila Ulickaja, I think the english title is Medea and Her Children by Ludmila Ulitskaya, who is a contemporary russian author. I think it sounds interesting.
