I have got a question to all those who live in the U.S. or to all who know about this: I am working in a bookstore and I am going to be responsible for the international books. Is it possible, that you tell me those titles that are popular where you live (besides the ones which are on the bestseller lists)? So I would be able to get some new ideas!
I would be very grateful!

Books about bands or celebrities are always a big hit. lol.
I can't really be sure about anything else...I live in a hick town where no one reads the stuff I do. Teen books or Young Adult are always good too.

Yeah, the only bookstore I used is gone now, but I still get emails for special offers on stuff that's not always on the Bestseller Lists. When I get the emails, I'll tell you which books it mentions if it helps. Some probably will be on the Bestseller Lists, but I don't think they all will be.

Right now "The Namesake" is big because the movie just came out - along with "The Interpretor of Maladies." "Heyday" by Kurt Andersen is getting a lot of attention. Jonathan Lethem's new book - "You Don't Love Me Yet" also has a lot of buzz because he's so popular (Wrote "The Fortress of Solitude" and "Motherless Brooklyn." I won't be surprised if it makes the bestseller list soon. "The Spellman Files" by Lisa Lutz also has a LOT of media attention. I wouldn't be surprised if that also makes the bestseller list. "Water for Elephants" is very popular among serious book readers. Joan Didion's work has been getting a lot of new attention because of the success of "The Year of Magical Thinking" and because that book is about to be a one-woman broadway play. People are digging up all of her work now, she's written a lot. "What is the What" by Dave Eggers has received a lot of press as well. "I like you: Hospitality Under the Influence" by Amy Sedaris has been a HUGE hit in New York, especially around the holidays. David Sedaris is our god, in whom we trust completely. Anyone who reads anything here has read and loved David Sedaris. I will think more about this topic today and write more when I get home from work.

whats popular in australia now is pretty much everything thats already been mentioned. But I will keep my eyes peeled for more. "The Great War" by Les Murray is pretty popular. I think that would be a good pick because I'm pretty sure it's from an Australian point of view.

I think that would be a good pick because I'm pretty sure it's from an Australian point of view. Sounds interesting. What's it about? World War II? Sorry it's actually by Les Carlyon. It's about the battle in Gallipoli which is WWI. here's a quote about the book The Great War is Les Carlyon's extraordinary account of the Anzacs on the Western Front from 1916 to 1918. It combines a brilliant overview of this immense conflict with telling detail, stories, letters and diaries that breathe life into those terrible battles of 90 years ago. In The Great War Carlyon has produced a masterpiece that takes the reader from the generals formulating strategy to the troops fighting cold, filth and the terror of sudden death in their trenches. Written with the same narrative skill, humanity, vivid recreation and meticulous research that made Gallipoli a number one bestseller, Les Carlyon's astonishing new book is an epic that will stand as the lasting and definitive history of Australia's involvement in the Great War.
