Just a note on the topic of HP threads: my thanks to Jefie for letting us have another! And Dom, sorry for my silly talk and requests. I'm very happy to see that POA is ahead as the fav by 7 votes; it seems that while new installments come and go, number 3 remains super special to people. Add to which i feel it also resulted in the best film adaptation. I agree about it also being the best of the movies. It was incredible, so beautiful. A lot of people complained about the things they left out of the movie - but the movies cannot possibly include all that happens in the books. I adamantly insist that the movies are more like "treats" for those who read and love the books and should be no means be expected to replace the book series. And it's definitely my favorite book.

My only beef with the third movie is that they left out a lot of the information about James and his friends. It wouldn't have taken that long to do a bit more explaining. And they didn't tell us who wrote the Maurader's Map. I remember having to explain all of this to my parents (who never read the books) after we saw it.

I was and still am annoyed with certain facts being left out of film 3 that as memmcart said, could have been dealt with swiftly and easily (the Maruauders thing still plagues me, as they had ample opportunity for that one and yet added shrunken talking Jamacian heads!) but i also agree with zelda that the films should be seen and treated as additional delights for those wise enough to have read the books (hehe, we're so elitist in HP land!) And so, if you're confused, then it's your own fault for being lazy and only seeing the films and not opting to delve into an enjoyable book series! (i say this with many friends and family falling into that category, so i don't really mean those people any grief) All minor issues aside though, i think that both book and film 3 exemplified one amazing quality - being bravery on the part of their creators. In terms of the book, this is the first time Jo steers us away from the expected confrontation with Voldy at the end and really delves into Harry family's and history to present seemingly minor characters who end up having immeasurable impact on all the following novels (i adore Lupin though and am sad he hasn't had a golden moment since book 3...) And the tone of it all just seems more mature..... And then with the film, Cuaron made artistic, technical and dramatic decisions that were so inventive and honest and often beautiful that it made all those cynics realise that a HP film doesn't have to be a trite, dull, long, generic link in a "children's series".... i'll never forget watching Dan kick the bedside table and storm down the stairs and out the house in the opening scenes - although we know it's a bit of a link to film 5 Harry, it was the energy and the brutality of someone genuinally hurting and by golly it excited me, and i stayed that way for the rest of the film! Wow - rant over!

nice rant!! I will agree that Cuaron's artistic techniques were amazing, I loved how he focused on the passage of time... rather than speed everything up, which annoyed me in the 4th book because it only kept reminding me how they were trying to cram as much as they could in two hours!

I KNOW!!! They have got to start giving the *real* fans credit. I hate to sound awful but stuff the little kids who need to go potty and the parents who are bored - we, the true dedicated readers of the material, will happily sit through over 3 hours of film to see it transfered properly!!! Right?!

I think you're right neh. I'm one of the people who really complained about things which were left out of 3rd movie just after seeing it in cinema. Then I've thought more about it when my brother (who isn't an HP fan and has never read an HP book) said it was a great movie; I re-watched it and realized that Cuaron made a great job, I liked it and didn't care about the changes as much as I did before...just stopped to consider the movie as a repetition, an echo of the book..it found its own identity ;D
