I would like to suggest anything by Jostein Gaarder. I read all of his books and I highly recommend them! My favorite: Maya.

I'd like to suggest something for the contemporary fiction section too:
"White Oleander" by Janet Fitch "Snow Falling on Cedars" by David Guterson "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides
and some more, but I would like to know first what you all think about these suggestions.

just to let you all know I'm currently workshopping a version of this list using front page. Jefie and I plan at this point to create a new page within proboards (so using proboards to host it). Hopefully it will be up and running in the not too distant future. So if anyone has any books to add still go ahead

Ok another order of business with the book list, just for purposes of space and variety I'm going to keep it down to two books per author. So for Jane Austen I have Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey. I'm going to guess pride and prejudice for the first, but which one do you guys think out of the second two?

I like Northanger Abbey better, but perhaps Sense and Sensibility is more of a classic

Sense and Sensibility because its the better known of the two (not to say better of course!)
Also, when can we expect the list to be up and running?

not straight away, it's not hard to do but it's quite tedious and time consuming. I spent four hours starting it the other day and I only got four books done. I still have to weed it into classics and modern classics (which I'm finding confusing) and alphabetise it before I put anymore content actually up. I will try to have most of it done by the end of my holidays in two weeks. Here is where you can see the progress: www.rorysbookclub.proboards55.com/index.cgi?board=pageit's a bit messy atm but you get the general idea, there might be descriptions under the book's title, either that or everything will be made smaller, Jefie and I must still decide
